Location: City of San Sebastian

The most famous image of the city is that of the beautiful shell-shaped bay that shelters it from the sea. From there, it is a pleasant walk to the end of Ondarreta beach, home of the Peine del Viento (Wind Comb), a magnificent sculpture by Eduardo Chillida. Likewise the Kursaal, Miramar palace and the Boulevard are some of the identifying features which give the city its distinguished appearance. Walking through the city centre you come upon the Buen Pastor cathedral, a Neo-gothic style building. The cathedral is 75 metres high and can be seen from most of the city.

The old part, the city’s heart

The old part, situated at the foot of Mount Urgull, is a charming place with a warren of narrow streets. In its centre stands Plaza de la Constitución, a square with numbered balconies that denote its past use as a bullring. In the evenings and at weekends the streets are packed with people enjoying the fine cuisine on offer in the bars and restaurants. After sampling these delights, why not go for a walk to the Alderdi Eder Gardens and to the Plaza Gipuzkoa square.

Donostia-San Sebastián has a full programme of activities all through the year. One of the most representative is its International Film Festival, which draws actors and directors from all over the world to enjoy the best in cinema. The city also offers an International Jazz Festival which is a must for jazz lovers.

  From Bilbao, follow the A-8 motorway, and from Vitoria-Gasteiz, take the N-1 highway.

  The Airport of Donostia-San Sebastián (EAS) is located in Hondarribia, 20 km away from the city and 5 km from Irún. There are two flights a day from Madrid and one from Barcelona. There is a regular bus line connecting with the city centre.Some travellers might prefer to reach San Sebastián from The International Airport of Bilbao. This airport is located just 12 km from Bilbao and 100km from San Sebastián, and has regular flight connections with many domestic and foreign cities. There is a regular bus connection between Bilbao airport and the city of San Sebastián. It takes around one hour to reach the city center and costs 15 euros.
